Soft Tissue Therapy uses manual therapy to relieve pain and tension but is not limited to massage.
A Soft Tissue Therapist ( Level 5 Diploma is the highest in the industry) is qualified to Asses, Treat and Rehabilitate minor musculoskeletal injuries using massage, movement, stretch and neuromuscular /myofascial techniques.
It is therefore an umbrella term for different types of massage and mobilisation techniques, providing you with a more holistic approach to pain relief and wellbeing.
Your first appointment will be 75 minutes, to ensure enough time for consultation, treatment, assessment and feedback.
Follow- up sessions can be either 30 minutes or 60 minutes. This will depend on your situation and entirely your decision.
More often than not, 30 minute follow-ups are enough to treat one area and review your progress.
If you would like your treatment to be more relaxing experience, then 60 minutes will allow for a combination of pain relief and relaxation.
I have been trained to highest level in Soft Tissue Therapy and will adapt pressure and movement to what you feel works best for you.
Sport massage does not need to be painful, to provide good results. When working with particularly tight muscles or restricted tissues, there may be some discomfort but I will always try and keep this to a minimum and work with your feedback during treatment. Too much pain would lead your muscles to contract and induce a stress response, which is the opposite of what Soft Tissue Therapy should achieve.
You will be covered with a large towel at all times. I will only uncover the area of the body I am working with.
If we are working on your upper body, just remember to wear comfortable bottoms, ideally with an elasticated waistband.
For the ladies, please wear a bra that can be unclipped when you are lying on your front rather than a sports bra, as the latter would restrict access to your back and shoulders.
For full body massage or leg work, shorts are better but no drama if you forget to bring them.
*Remedial /Clinical Massage
When working with an injury, I may want to see you again 2 to 4 weeks after your initial appointment, especially if I have given you mobility or strengthening work to do at home. This will be to monitor, support and accelerate your recovery.
Follow-up appointments can be fitted into 30 minute sessions.
*Therapeutic Massage
You will feel looser and more relaxed after just one session, and may not feel the need for another treatment for some time.
If you would like regular maintenance to stay on top of recurring aches and pains, we can look at what would fit best into your life and plan this based on your goals and lifestyle.
*Sports Massage
If you would like a sports massage prior to a race or competition, please ensure your booking takes place at least 5 days prior to the event.
If you are booking a massage to speed up recovery after a race or competition, try and come in the next day to improve recovery time for fatigued muscles. This treatment will be lighter and focus on relaxing and gently stretching fatigued and tight tissues.
For regular maintenance and help with recovery from intense training, people generally like to come in monthly. This is however entirely up to you, depending on your training volume, schedule and personal preference.
